DG06 — Flood-Line Bar
Version 2.0.0

An imagined Gulf-coast bar after the water has gone: a tide-line stain at knee height on every wall, floors scrubbed to the nails, mismatched stools, candles and a generator, and a defiant reopening in which dignity is the best-dressed person in the room.

SEMANTIC SEED

Create work that is dignified, resourceful, alluring, and distinctly itself. Use this semantic seed as an aesthetic starting point. Interpret it through your medium, letting its character guide the discoveries you make as the work develops. Keep the place adult and dramatic: pride is its register, and charge is its constant.

Imagine a bar on the Gulf coast a week after a storm, the water gone but its mark left at knee height along every wall, a brown line like a signature. Let the floors be scrubbed bare, the stools mismatched and borrowed, the bottles lined up on boards, and a generator thrum in the yard while candles and a few working bulbs light the room. Give the work the dignity of a defiant reopening: hand-painted signs, a mop leaning with ceremony, a regular who arrives with a folding chair, a jukebox that survived on a high shelf. Let humidity cling and the air smell faintly of bleach and lime. Light should be low and amber, doubling in a salvaged mirror. Adult charge lies in survival shared, in the close warmth of a room that decided to be a bar anyway, and in the courage of dressing for it.

ARRIVAL AND CHARGE

A woman in a white evening dress, picking her way over wet boards and bucket handles, steps through the door as the first candle is lit and the mirror catches her. The bar is celebrating the fact of itself, so her glamour is plausible as a statement and welcome as a salute.
